K Records DIY legend and incredibly nice guy Karl Blau currently has a Kickstarter to press his new album, a collection of country soul covers curated and arranged/recorded by the magical ears of Tucker Martine. I'm really excited to hear this record! Karl has been plugging away, self-releasing CDRs of his music for years, with occasional wider re-releases. This man has given so much of himself to his fans over the years, truly one of the most generous souls I've encountered - it would be so great if this record can happen, and hopefully bring his voice and songs to a wider audience. Anyway, if that sounds intriguing, please have a look: You can hear the song that was the seed of this project, a one-off collaboration with Tucker Martine's Mount Analog, here: shop.krecs.com/products/ipu118And here's an incredibly lush sounding song from the new record (sounds like it needs a bit of mastering and a subtle field-recording of crickets under it, but, you know, basically there)... If you're interested to check out some of his massive archive of self-releases, there's plenty on his bandcamp here. And there was a great WFMU special just recently, with a nice hour-long selection of tunes from his Kelp Monthly CDR subscription series... nice late-night listening! wfmu.org/playlists/shows/60895
