Dude. Seriously. Why does corn-on-the-cob always come in packets of two? Even when it's cut into halves? I asked Google to find this out for me, but have yet to hear back. Please help thanks.

It's for couples without children.

Why is it so much easier to get cooked beetroot than raw beetroot?

Not sure we're ready to get onto beetroot, what with the sweetcorn mystery still outstanding. We could be getting out of our depth. But I assume it's to do with the fact that raw beetroot takes so long to prepare, and companies can sell less of it for more pre-packed. Morrisons always have loads of dirty beetroot, at the front, bathed by steam jets, looking sexy.

Corn on the cob, LIKE BEETROOT, is far more readily available in pre-cooked plastic-wrapped packets. WHY? If we could work this out we would have an answer. The beetroot always comes in packs of four. It's no harder to prepare raw beetroot than raw carrot.

That wasn't my experience - there was the whole boiling-it-for-an-hour malarkey, for one thing. Also, pre-packed beetroot does sometimes come in packets of three (usually when it's the organic ones, so the sizes are less uniform). But you do have a point of sorts, I'll admit.

You can eat beetroot raw. Just like carrot. OR cut it up and boil it.

i don't understand why they take sweetcorn out of it's nice intelligently designed/evolved husk and put it in fucking cling film. it ferments in there in about 2.5 hours, whereas it stays edible in the husk for days. capitalism. arseholes.
you should roast your beetroot. garlic. thyme. salt. pepper. maybe a splash of balsamic if you're feeling continental.

There was a trend about a decade ago (maybe more?) for sweetcorn to come in its own husky packagaing, but I guess that some focus group somewhere decided it was too difficult for consumers to rip away the excess vegetation, or maybe it was down to the difficulty in adding "best before" information. I DO know, though, that they are packaged in pairs as that's the way ears have always presented themselves. Otherwise, how would you balance your glasses?

Tell me more about the roast beetroot. It's lovely. Roasted. Also makes for an excellent Risotto. Warning: Eating lots of beetroot can colour your wee/poo and make you think you're dying...someone told me.

Mmmmmm... keep talking...
I eat beetroot most days (!) but haven't noticed that. I did think I was vomiting up blood recently, and did wonder if beetroot was to blame, but it was most likely just because I'd been hanging out with Operator.
