Just wondering what time folk were on stage at this monday for Hidden Door? Thanks Hullo deb! Sorry it's taken awhile to reply - I've been preparing for tomorrow's show by drinking and dancing. I can't quite remember the exact times, but all the live stuff should be done by 11pm. Kid Canaveral are doing an acoustic set now, cos they can't do a band set as planned. I'm gonna do some Pictish songs at the start of the night now, too. What a treat! Sooo it should looks like this ... 7pm doors 7.15 Pictish Trail 8.00 kid Canaveral acoustic 9.00 tuff love 10pm Randolph's leap X

That was a great night. Brilliant venue space, with a nice atmosphere. And I didn't even get as far as exploring all the other arches with art in them (might go on Friday morning if I can make time). We got a slo-mo acoustic Winter Home Disco and more from Pictish, a couple of solo Kate Canaveral numbers (a minor-key Skeletons, and No Backing Track) and a load more Kid hits from Davey Canavey, including a hilariously ramshackle audience singalong to You Only Went Out. Tuff Love were epic, and their set was immediately followed by that tone of excitable audience murmur that tells you that quite a few people have just heard a band for the first time that were far better than they had expected. Randolph's Leap were in full battle formation, and I'd had a whole pint by then, so had a good dance throughout, even to the "slow" ones. As well as announcing the release of their new album, they used the event to debut a new noise-rock direction. By which I mean that there may have been some minor sound issues, but it didn't matter, because it sounded amazing - definitely the most rock n' roll I've heard them, and it was great! What then? Oh yeah, then Pictish played some rap music tunes that would have had Michael Gove jigging about and mouthing along, until the lights went up and no more ale could be squeezed from the keg (despite the best efforts of a diligent bar person). Overall, a pretty good night! I'd definitely go to see Meursault et al there on Friday night, if I wasn't totally skint. Here is a Pictish, and also a Colin Kirby at the front there. Here is an amazing chair in the bar area. I suspect some other people may have taken better pictures on the night...

Excellent review sir. Twas ace! Sadly I had to leave before the Leap as my sleep-deprived (depraved?) brain was demanding bedtime... but bloody good night all around
